How to make an appointment
If your doctor has referred you for a mammogram or ultrasound please telephone our appointments office on 0207 908 2000 to arrange this. Same day appointments can usually be arranged for urgent referrals. Results for mammography, ultrasound and cytology will be sent to the referring clinician normally within 24 hrs. Histology results require 48hrs.
We will accept self referral if you are over the age of 40 and for mammograms only. You will need to book in to see a doctor in out unit who will then authorize the necessary tests to be carried out and the doctor can then give you an immediate result.
What you need to bring with you for your appointment
Please bring with you the following information / forms:
- Request form/letter form the referring clinician
- Details of your insurance membership including your authorization number for the investigations required
- Details of your own General Practitioner, if he is not the referrer, to include his address and postcode
- Any old breast x-rays that you may have had previously are useful for comparison On arrival at the Breast Care Centre
You will be registered at the reception desk. A radiographer will explain the procedure, at which point, you will have an opportunity to have any questions or concerns answered, prior to having your mammogram performed.
Your mammogram will be reported on by a consultant radiologist specialising in breast imaging. The results will be forwarded to your referring doctor within 24 hours. Where appropriate, reports can be faxed urgently to the referring clinician.
Sometimes it may be necessary for a further examination, such as a breast ultrasound or biopsy. Where possible and clinically appropriate, the centre tries to ensure that the procedure is carried out on the same day to ensure the patient moves swiftly to the next stage of their care.
